I LOVE this photo and I LOVE
this cosplay and I LOVE
... That pretty much sums it all up for me.
No, but seriously, since I saw the trailer for WIR, I fell in love with it. I just loved the concept, and knew it would be a good movie - and I was right! Since first seeing the film in November, I have seen it two more times, am the proud owner of the soundtrack, and, most recently, this cosplay! I don't think I've been this obsessed with a movie since I saw Lilo and Stitch when I was a kid, so that's really saying something. Plus the casting was a sufficient nostalgia hit for me since I grew up loving School of Rock, which Sarah Silverman was in, have spent most of my pre-teenhood, and all of my teen years watching 30 Rock, which features Jack McBrayer, and, of course, I spent quite a bit of time following Glee, and think Jane Lynch is awesome. Unfortunately, I can't say that I knew any of John C. Reily's work, but hey, I can now! I could seriously go on and on about this movie, but I think you the gist.
As for Vanellope, I have to rave a little here. When I saw her in the trailer, I immediately fell in love with her character design (namely the hair candy) and had a feeling I'd like her. And of course, I was right. She's basically the Wreck-It Ralph equivalent of Maya Fey, making her hands down my movie spirit animal; the things she says, that is totally the way I talk. I'm also a major Mario Kart (and pretty much racing games in general) fanatic, so if I was in a racing game where I wasn't allowed to race, I would go outlaw too. I also LOVED the concept of her being a glitch, that really grabbed my interest. Sarah Silverman did such an amazing job voicing her, and just everything about her character is so loveable. Another big thing was how I related to the bullying she suffered. Watching the movie for the first time, I was just sitting there thinking "oh my gosh, that's me. I was that kid." Kids gave me a hard time because I was different, and broke my stuff. They didn't push me into mud, but they definitely pushed my soul into deep, chocolatey mud of sadness. So needless to say, I related to Vanellope in many ways.
Super quick, here's a bit on the construction: the wig and extension I had before. All the hair candy I made by hand (there's actually more of it, but I didn't get around to putting all of it in XP).
I'll be posting a hair candy tutorial soon
already done! Link below. The tights and hoodie were bought for me by my Grandma (thank you so much)!
The tights' stripes are made out of jersey fabric and stretchy knitted fabric; took me three tries to get them right, but I'm happy that I managed to make it work in the end! The boots I had before. The skirt was originally a peasant skirt, which I've had for years, but never wore, so cutting it up seemed like a no-brainer. Her hair Twizzler I originally tried making out of clay, but it kept breaking and wouldn't fit right, so my mom eventually convinced me to just scratch that idea and use fabric. I caved and went for it, and am super happy I did! It came out really well and is super light and easy to put into the wig. Plus the shininess definitely does it justice.
I also must mention that the Twizzler, as well as the details on the hoodie are made of probably the most appropriate fabric ever... Taffeta
So there's my rambling! Vanny will probably have her con debut at Sakura-Con 2013, since I've convinced most of the members of my cosplay group to form a WIR group with me, so I should have a Felix, Ralph and hopefully
Taffyta and Candlehead... 'Cause ah wanna have mah haters! :'DCharacter:
