Description

(Now for a more light-hearted post than my last one. :) Thank you all so much for your tremendous support, you guys are amazing.)

Another retro throwback cosplay, anyone? As some of you may have noticed, I've been playing a lot of Earthbound lately. I was originally going to pull out Beth for Sunday of Sakura-Con, but a couple of months prior to the con, I had to sit myself down and acknowledge the fact that since I'd been making so much progress in the game, Earthbound cosplay was something I could hardly keep myself from daydreaming about, so it was about time for an Earthbound cosplay. Therefore, I yanked Beth and was able to conveniently slide my long-awaited Paula cosplay into my lineup! In case you haven't noticed, I kind of have a thing for cosplaying cute little videogame girls, so Paula seems like a pretty fitting add to my portfolio. I was interested in cosplaying Paula before I even started playing Earthbound. Right away, she looked like my kind of character, but of course I had to make sure I'd actually met her in the game before going ahead and cosplaying her. In retrospect, this was all kind of preemptive, but hey, it still seemed a little obvious from the beginning that Paula was my kind of girl. I love how she's sweet and shy, as well as very spiritual but also happens to have all the epically powerful PSI attacks; definitely my kind of character. As Fantasyrhia likes to point out, I'm very protective of Paula when playing the game. I've ranted quite a bit about how dumb I find her kidnapping, arguing that it just seemed so shoe-horned into the plot given how it doesn't fit her character's personality or skills. Plus I have a tendency to smack the nearest surface and scream whenever she gets killed in battle. So yes, Paula definitely is a dear character to me. Not to mention, I'm a sucker for making cute little pink dresses and playing cute characters, so this certainly was a blast to finally do (not to mention, Fantasyrhia was a champ for agreeing to be my Ness so that I could have my chibi OTP). >w<

There is much more for me to tell about my relationship with the Earthbound series so far, but I'll save those tidbits for later. I'd like to mention just how much I love this photo. Ever since I first considered doing an Earthbound cosplay, I wanted to do a battle shot like this with the PSI effects, but I wasn't sure whether or not I'd be able to pull it off with my lack of experience with that type of Photoshopping. However, with a bit of help from a quick little tutorial and the amazing stock that stuff-stock has to offer, my dream shot came true right off the bat! I'd also like to mention how lucky I am to have had Glittapop as a photographer throughout the con. She did a fantastic job trying out different angles and not being afraid to get into some stressful positions to do so. She volunteered to take me for this quick but fun little impromptu shoot after we all had Easter dinner at Erin-Aru's aunt and uncle's house in our cosplays after getting home from the con on Sunday and I wouldn't shut up about how I didn't want to change out of my cosplay because I was just so proud of how I looked. XD (*Run on sentence much, haha. XP) So we got some very Earthbound-esque photos in Erin's aunt and uncle's front yard before getting called in by the rest of the gang to hurry up and get changed into our Shingeki no Bootyshorts getups, hurr hurr. ;D
